Summer Menu @ Gourmet Food Parlour, Salthill.

Some of you may recall I was invited into Gourmet Food Parlour, Salthill back in May of this year and if you haven’t seen that yet, you can catch up HERE. Since then, they have launched a new Summer Menu so I was kindly invited back to try that out! Keep on reading to hear my thoughts..

In my last post, I had commented on their bright, colourful and cheery decor and I’m glad to report that nothing has changed in that sense. The glass front on the building really brings the outdoors in on a stunning summer evening in Salthill.

Throughout the summer months Gourmet Food Parlour, Salthill are offering special varied cocktails so make sure to ask what they have on offer when you pop in. Upon our visit we got a fruity, prosecco based cocktail. An ideal summer refreshment that hit the spot just right! They also got a big tumbs up from me for making the effort to use paper straws as opposed to plastic, something I now always make sure to take note of.

For starters, I had what I had on my last visit actually – ‘Artisan Bread & Dips’ which comes with three dips: hummus, sundried tomato pesto & basil pesto. Again, the portion size was very generous and I simply loved the dips. However, this time around I would have to say the bread seemed a tad overdone so it was too crunchy, to the point that I couldn’t each very much of it which was a pity but I certainly wasn’t left hungry with a delicious main course & dessert to come.

My date for the night, Ruth, enjoyed the ‘Spicy Buffalo Wings’ with celery sticks and chipotle aioli as her starter.

For mains, I went with the ‘Falafel Plate’ which consisted of falafel balls, hummus, roast beets, cucumber & rocket salad. As a vegetarian, seeing falafel on a menu can be a bit of an eye-roll as they can tend to be quite dry a lot of the time from what I’ve tried. However, this was certainly not the case with this particular falafel plate. It was flavorful, fresh and a real treat for the the eyes and mouth. I can’t fault it and will definitely be ordering again as it’s the perfect dish for a summer evening when craving something fresh yet filling.

Ruth went with the ‘Thai Red Chicken Curry’ for mains. I had the ‘Three Bean’ version of this on my last visit and I really enjoyed it!

The grand finale, dessert! I was glad to hear the Eton Mess was available as they had just ran out when I went to order it previously. Upon trying it, I immediately understood why it had sold out before. The fruit and cream were beautifully fresh accompanied by delicious meringue pieces.

For Ruth’s dessert, she opted for the warm chocolate brownie, with zero faults to report.

Again, I’d like to say a massive thank you to Gourmet Food Parlour for being so kind to have me back! Myself and Ruth really enjoyed our evening down to the delicious food & drinks, friendly & attentive staff and dreamy decor.
