So I’ve decided that I need to make a change in my life and that change is – I need to spend more time with the right kind of people.
I am so blessed to know lots of amazing people but I simply do not spend enough time with these people. I always find an excuse like I’m too busy or else my anxiety is being a dick and I simply cannot pluck up the effort required to arrange meeting up etc, to some people this might sound very stupid but I know people with anxiety will understand this and it is something I actually want to get into a bit more in my next blog post, on how anxiety can affect friendships.
But for now, I want to talk about the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Being around people that are not right for you can have a huge impact on how you feel and your mentality. For example, when I’m around the ‘wrong’ kind of people, I feel invisible and this has resulted in me spending a lot of time by myself.
I used to think the worst thing in life was
to end up alone. It’s not.
The worst thing in life is to end up with
people that make you feel all alone.
Robin Williams

Yes, of course it’s ok to spend time by yourself and it’s good for you sometimes and I enjoy alone time but it can also get too much and greatly impact your mental health. So this is why I am making a promise to myself to put that effort in and spend time with the people that I simply don’t feel invisible around. As a quiet person, I’m never the chattiest in the group so my voice can easily fade away into the background and I just give up trying to have an input. But having said that I’m a very friendly person and will literally have a conversation with anyone but I’ve given up trying to put an effort in with and please the ‘wrong’ people simply because it’s not worth it. I’m not valued around these people and I’ve finally accepted that there’s nothing wrong with me as a person theyr’e just not the right people for me.
In complete contrast to the ‘wrong’ people, the right kind of people don’t let my voice fade away, they listen to me, pay attention to me and support me which in turn results in me feeling like I can be myself. To have my opinion valued is such a wonderful feeling and to actually feel included makes me truly adore being in the company of these wonderful people that just get me. I want to say a huge thank you to these brilliant people in my life, you all the real MVP👊😜
So do yourself a favour and surround yourself with the people that make you laugh, smile and feel good because no matter how independent we are, we need good people too!

People inspire you, or they drain
you – pick them wisely.

Here’s to seeing a lot more of the right kind of people! 💖
